During a Pilates session you fully focus on your "powerhouse" or "core". This is the area around your navel / lower abdomen. It is a form of stabilization training where you do exercises to strengthen your core. This is not so much about strength training where speed and weights are important, but a form of training that involves controlled and focused exercise.
In addition, you also focus on correct breathing. The combination of focused practice and breathing will give you a relaxed feeling. In addition, you considerably improve your flexibility through the various exercises. Over time, these exercises give you better control over your body.
